To Your Health!The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is designed to prepare professional nurses for roles in advanced practice. The curriculum emphasizes the relationships among advanced nursing practice, theory, and scholarly inquiry. Nurses educated at the graduate level demonstrate competency in the roles of advanced caregiver, leader, teacher, and participant in and/or conductor of research. Nurses prepared at the graduate level also have the opportunity to influence health policy and to practice with a high level of autonomy in a variety of settings.

Curriculum Support/Enrichment TimeThis program at W.T. Chipman Middle School consists of a 30-minute intensive instruction period that occurs during school each day. Traditional District Schools, Charters and Magnets share the same academic standards, but Charters and Magnets can also offer a specialized structure and, or curriculum concentration to engage students with special interests and promote maximum learning. iEducate: Audrey CareyAudrey Carey, district elementary supervisor of Indian River, oversees the Technology Advancing Proficiency in English Language Learners Program (TAPE), which uses technology to meet the needs of on English Language Learners in 2-5th grade. The program integrates iPads, SMARTboards, and PCs so as to provide individualized and interactive educational opportunities.

Maintaining high expectations, she has developed a number of innovative strategies to strengthen social and communication skills for her students, and also works with parents to develop strategies to continue learning at home.

iEducate: Tracey RobertsTracey Roberts, principal at Pulaski Elementary, started “Pulaski on the Prowl” born, an initiative that sent staff out into the community even before the first day of school. Bringing donated book bags and supplies, teachers visited homes of incoming students, leaving school lanyards with bilingual messages when no one was home.

iEducate: Margaret O\'DwyerMargaret O’Dwyer co-founded the Delaware Youth Leadership Network (DYLN), a program that brings together HS juniors for a program that includes discussion groups with inspirational speakers, mentors aligned with student interests, and group activities to reinforce critical leadership skills.

Parental Involvement Award: Gallaher ElementaryGallaher Elementary School uses their “Parents as Partners” and it shows. Parents serve on all school committees, including Code of Conduct Review Committee, PBS and Calendar Review Committees. In addition, the principal hosts a coffee with all parents on a monthly basis, and teachers exchange weekly progress reports with them. Every teacher in the school sends out no less than two positive postcards a month to the parents of each student. Gallaher is also a Blue Ribbon winner for their significant narrowing of the achievement gap.

Parent Involvement Awards: Bayard Middle SchoolBayard Middle School is doing a variety of complementary things for parental involvement. Bayard has a Family and Community Liaison Team devoted to increasing Family and Community Engagement. By bringing in the community, as well as the parents, the involvement outside of the school building has increased. Bayard formed a Parent Cyber Café, which is an online group of parents that meet monthly online to discuss important information about the school and their students. They are also working to create a Spanish version of the Cyber Café. Both of these “Café’s” allow parents to be an integral part of the school in a way they might otherwise not have had.
